Georgie
Hello and welcome to Real Easy English, the podcast where we have real conversations in easy English to help you learn. I'm Georgie.

Neil
And I’m Neil. You can read along with this podcast on our website: bbclearningenglish.com.

Georgie
Neil, how are you?

Neil
I'm very well, thank you, Georgie. Is that a new jacket you're wearing?

Georgie
Yes, it is. Do you like it?

Neil
I do, yes, it's very nice. And today we're talking about shopping. We'll talk about where we shop and how much things cost.

Georgie
Great, let's get started. So, Neil, do you enjoy shopping?

Neil
Yes, sometimes I enjoy shopping. I like shopping for interesting, fun things for me, not so much for everyday things. How about you?

Georgie
Yes, I like shopping sometimes. I think it can be fun to go shopping with friends as another activity to spend time with them and they can give you advice on what to buy as well. And I like going shopping by myself sometimes too.

Neil
And your new jacket, is that the most recent thing you've bought?

Georgie
Yes, my new red jacket. I bought it last week online and it arrived last Thursday.

Neil
So did you get a good deal? Was it cheap, not much money?

Georgie
Yes, I did get a good deal actually, because it was second hand and that means that someone had the jacket before. So it's not new, well, it's new for me, but it's not new from a shop, so it was quite cheap.

Neil
Yeah, because new things are often quite expensive, aren't they? They cost lots of money.

Georgie
Yes, exactly.

Neil
So, Georgie, you said you got a good deal for your jacket. What was the price?

Georgie
Ooh. It was twenty pounds. It was quite cheap, it didn't cost much.

Neil
That is a good price!

Georgie
And Neil, what was the most recent thing you bought?

Neil
Well, apart from everyday things which I don't like buying, I bought some new glasses.

Georgie
Ooh. Why did you buy some new glasses?

Neil
Well, because I broke my old ones.

Georgie
Oops.

Neil
And my eyes are getting worse.

Georgie
Oh no! Do you like your new glasses?

Neil
I do, yes. And I got a really good deal, they were half price.

Georgie
Wow. So that's fifty percent discount.

Neil
Yes, that's right.

Georgie
Nice and cheap.

Neil
Yes. So, Georgie, you said you bought your new jacket online. Do you buy lots of your stuff online? Do you do online shopping or do you prefer to go to the shops?

Georgie
I like going into the shop because you can see all of the clothes, physically, but it's really easy to order online because the clothes and things that you buy just arrive at your house. Super easy.

What about you? Do you order lots of things online?

Neil
Yeah, I… I do most of my shopping online. I think unless you have to really see the thing, I’d rather have it delivered.

Georgie
OK, let's recap the vocabulary we heard during the conversation.

We had price, the amount of money you pay for something.

Neil
We heard cheap, not much money.

Georgie
Expensive, a lot of money.

Neil
A good deal, a lower price than most people pay for something.

Georgie
And second hand, something you bought that someone else had before you.
