The story

People who have a higher daily step count have a lower risk of depression, according to a new global study.

Previous research had found that walking more was linked to better heart health and a longer life in general, but this new study suggests that walking 7,000 steps a day might help to lower the risk of depression in adults.

The findings contrast with the popular view that 10,000 steps a day is necessary.
