I'm the BBC's media correspondent and this is my brief selection of what you need to know.

The Press Complaints Commission chairman Lady Buscombe has denied critics' claims that the watchdog is "toothless". The BBC and Guardian report that in its annual review, she defends the PCC's decision not to uphold 25,000 complaints over Jan Moir's article about Boyzone singer Stephen Gately.

The British Library is to digitise 40 million historic newspaper pages, opening them up to historians, genealogists and students reports the BBC. It's signed a ten-year deal with online publisher BrightSolid, which will take the financial risks.

Gary Lineker that he has given up his Mail on Sunday column in protest against its Lord Triesman sting which threatens England's bid to host the World Cup in 2018 reports the BBC and Guardian.

The BBC newspaper review says the papers are previewing Nick Clegg's plans for a radical redistribution of power from state to people.
