[Editor: A few weeks ago we recorded a series of short films around R&D with Quentin Cooper, host of "Material World" and "Connect" on Radio 4, and science and engineering "journalist at large". We shot quite a few mini documentaries with Quentin, looking at various recent, and not so recent elements of the work at R&D, interviewing key staff and playing with various perculiar bits of kit.
In this final part of an in depth three part interview with the controller of R&D, Matthew Postgate, Quentin and Matthew discuss the current and soon to be departed base of R&D, Kingswood Warren. The reasons for the move and the future place of R&D in London and the BBC's future Northern base at Media City are explored, and they also look at the culture and the people who make R&D tick. The discussion closes with an exploration of the future relevance of R&D, and the fundamental value of the dept to the BBC and the wider industry.]
