I'm sorry but as a football fan, I look with amazement and disgust at how the Blackburn fans are behaving.

Within a few weeks of the sad and lonely death of Gary Speed, to subject any individual to this torrent of abuse is awful. Your club may get relegated. It may have terrible owners. Kean may not be up to the job.

Look yourselves in the mirror. I couldn't have this on my conscience. When all said and done, it is only a game.

Disgraceful. The whole country is looking at you with disgust.

There are a number of football supporters who seem to rely on the game for their self-esteem and self-worth.

Sure enough this is what the game can bring, and in the support of my club I have enjoyed the feel-good factor that this game can bring.

However there is no legally binding contract which says that we as supporters are entitled to this benefit.

Why? If a fan did what Suarez did they would be banned for life. Good blog Phil, it makes you think that maybe Steve Kean knows something about Venkys that no-one else does and his sacking would mean alot of dirty washing being aired.

I feel for Steve Kean. The treatment he is receiving from the fans is a disgrace. These fans will of course get their own way but Venkeys will show just how insane they are by sacking him without a replacement lined up before the busy festive period.

Allardice should never have been sacked and its ironic he is probably who a team would want if you're fighting for your lives.

The fans should ease up. Your team need your support over this busy period and you are hardly making Blacburn look an inviting prospect for any new manager!!

Have ripped up my season ticket until we get a change of management. Kean hasn't a clue what he's doing at all. We should be comfortably beating teams like West Brom, Bolton at home. Under Kean we look lost and say what you want, we are bottom. Simple as.

This whole blackburn business leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There's d owners who have shone they know only about chickens and probably should have stayed with poultry and left football to those who know what to do about it. They sacked Sam, a popular coach and appointed an unproven one. And have not shown honour in either publicly supporting Kean or sacking him!

Then there's those supporters who have not shown honor nor pride nor loyalty to their team, and have left them to walk alone in tough times. They dserve to be relegated!

As for Kean and d players, no one can accuse them of not putting in their best. I feel that at d end of d day, the true winners may turn out to b kean and d lads!

I feel Suarez has got off lightly to be honest, he has obviously been found guilty. Once Liverpool appeal it will be half a weeks wages and a nice 4 game ban, or a 10 day holiday over the festive period.

Racism has no place in any sport, and covering it up by saying "Its accepted" in his home country is no excuse.


As to Blackburn had the fans been supporting the team I would have had every sympathy, but with the way the majority are reportedly acting I hope Kean stays there for this season and many more to come.

When you consider all the reasons for managers being shown the door so far this season how on earth can Kean keep his position? It defies all logic and is a sign of very weak management by the owners and the board.

His record and the Club's position speaks for itself.

I can only assume that the Blackburn owners don't know the first thing about football, or Kean has an amazing contract so that they can't afford to sack him. I think the treatment he has received from 'fans' is completely unacceptable, but his position must surely be untenable now. This would be the perfect time for another manager to step in: a couple of games to see what there is with the current squad, and then try to improve it in the coming transfer window.

he does not seem to be getting the best out of his players, that I agree with. However, it cannot be easy for the players when they are hearing the unbelievable abuse being levelled at Kean. The fans are actually being detrimental to their teams' chances.

I think what Blackburn fans have to realise is that their team just isn't that good. Even if they sack Kean, they will still go down. No matter who they get in, the players just aren't good enough.

I stil wonder why kean can't just step down after all this torrent of abuse from the fans. It makes me feel there's something else behind all this. Its so obvious he will never get the support of the fans...and i don't see him changing the fortunes of the club and yet he's still holding on to the post. Well said Scottie164! I wish the best to the manager who is getting dog's abuse and retaining his dignity. With more composure in the final third and a right mid who knew how to track back, they might have got a result last night. Yacubu again showed his class with his goal and there is always hope if they can improve the service to him. One or two did not seem good enough, so it was a surprise to see Jason Roberts not playing because of his physical presence and ability to finish. I felt sorry to see Pederson lacking confidence and having an off day. He is another top player and when he can play in his best position, the service to the forwards will be much better.

The man must be a masochist. It's surely the only reason he hasn't excused himself from this abuse before now, either that or he's insane.

I do feel bad for him in a way he obviously wants to do well, but it's been clear for some time he's well out of his depth and should go. The whole thing stinks really and unless something happens with Venkys this could be a disastrous season rather than the usual Blackburn dire season.

Not once has Steve Kean turned on the fans or his players. It's amazing how well he's held himself in the face of such adversity. I want Blackburn to stay up for Steve Kean - no-one deserves the treatment he has recieved.

If the fans, the local MP and the local newspaper get their way and he gets sacked then I hope they get relegated.

The poisnous atmosphere you have all created will obviously have had a negative effect on the team so you will have gotten what you deserve.

Good result for Owen Coyle, hopefully he can turn things around now - although the last few games before last night they have looked dire.

Steve Kean is getting exactly what he deserves. I figure you've all forgotten the way he back-stabbed his way into this position by manufacturing the sacking of 'Big Sam'. If Allerdyce was still in charge, not a chance they would be in this position. Personally they've been my favorites to go down since the end of last season and see nothing to change my mind. So very little sympathy for him, he's a big boy, get over it...

p.s. At work we think that Kean is the worst premier league manager ever ? By that, turning a good PL squad into a certain relegation fodder. Not newly promoted managers (i.e. Billy Davis - Derby) who get no chance !

I am a Rovers fan, and been on about 10 games this season. I have never, booed the team and never chanted against Steve Kean. What is blatently clear is that he's the wrong man in the wrong job at the wrong time. From his point of view I don't blame him for taking the job, he'll make plenty of money, and get the chance to manage in the PL, who wouldn't take it?

The one goal we scroed last night was as a result of good 4-4-2 play, as were the goals against NUFC in the league cup, and played quite well that way against QPR. How can he send a team out playing 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 when it doesn't work? That'd only work if the midfield were fit and willing to run, not shown in many of the games.

AS for Coyle's comments, being involved in a Coup then ruining the club will never attract support, look at Egypt.

The fans have every right to vent their anger. They pay the money, without them there would be no club. If the players or manager dont like it, then quit. They are all paid stupid amounts of money to do a job and entertain. If they cant do that, then quit or take the abuse.

Typically ignorant repsonses from people who are clueless about what is happening at Ewood Park. And I find it hilarious how the Rovers fans are being condemned when they're behaving rather well compared to the Manchester United fans during the Glazer's take over and the fiasco that G&H put Liverpool through.

There have been no death threats, no burning of effigies, and no threats of violence. Everything has been peaceful, organised, and very very vocal. If you don't like it, then please advise on how the situation should be dealt with? Give us some of your wisdom and insight on how fans should make their voices heard because it sounds to me like none of you could offer alternatives, and furthermore, don't know the difference between anger and aggression. There's nothing threatening about how we've vocalised our support, it might not be nice to hear but that's a something totally different.

Is it not obvious why Kean hasn't walked?? It's not masochism, or integrity, or determination - resign for nothing or get sacked for a pay-off, I'd take dog's abuse for what's probably a 6-figure severance package...

Hopefully the Blackburn fans get there wish and Kean is dismissed. Then if the replacment comes in and starts as badly i hope they level the same amount of abuse to show they are at least consistent.

Steve Kean is a decent man, an excellent coach with an good eye for the game.
However he is the wrong man at the wrong time for Blackburn and should never have been catapulted into his present position by the owners.

There is no sign of the owners or any meaningful communication from them.
They seem to be breathtakingly incompetent when it comes to footballing matters, and now completely callous in their treatment of Steve Kean.

Steve Kean, no matter how inept / out of depth he is as the manager at Blackburn Rovers, does not deserve the level of abuse he is currently receiving! The so called 'fans' of the club (which barely ever fill Ewood Park - even in better days) ought be ashamed of themselves, berating a man who has only tried his best, in impossible circumstances and is continuing to do so without ANY thanks or backing it seems from ANYONE at this joke of a club.

All Steve Kean has done is taken on a job as a manager at a Premier League club, which I'm sure in the circumstances, most of these pathetic fans would have done too if they were in Kean's shoes. He was obviously promised strong financial backing and was told to play exciting, attacking football (which he had tried to do - at times). However, soon after his appointment, the alarm bells began to ring with talk from the idiot owners of Beckham, Raul & Ronaldinho being genuine transfer targets for Rovers. Publically & privately it seems, these owners are fools and have turned a former Premier League winning team into a laughing stock - Jack Walker must be turning in his grave.

Granted, Kean has underperformed - greatly. I have heard endless statistics about how he is the 'worst ever' Blackburn Rovers boss, so can understand the fans wanting a proven & experienced manager to try and change their fortunes, but to 'boo' a goal (when players ran to Kean in show of support for him), 'tweet' Kean's (and families) appearance at a local restaurant to provoke angry fans to turn up & to also throw Blackburn shirts etc at Kean as he tried to walk down the tunnel last night is just shambolic! The fans have behaved like utter morons and nobody has any sympathy for them & also the club ruining 'owners' who by their continued absence (and leaving at half time at Wigan - due to being 'too cold'), have hung Kean out to dry.

All the fans are now doing are putting off potential replacements should they get their wish of Kean getting the sack. The clubs owners, who have obviously caused all the problems (sacking Allardyce, hiring Kean, making constant ridiculous statements without following through & giving Kean no support through the worst of the fans anger), will still be there - maybe instead of all the hatred and vitriol being directed at Kean - the 'fans' should demonstrate against the owners, much like Liverpool fans did with Hicks & Gillette.

Either way the so called fans need to man up.

Not a liverpool fan, but I do think Suarez ban is inconsistent. 8 games for verbals, when some tackles which are bordeline assaults go unpunished. Doesn't add up for me.

As for Blackburn. If the fans are going to behave the way they have this year, booing when their own team scored a few weeks ago sticks in my mind, then maybe they deserve a few years in a lower division learning to support their team properly.

Not sure what qualifies Jack Straw to stick his beak in? I suppose he did such a spectacular job in government he now knows how to run a football club. I don't recall Kean advising him on foreign policy - although he would probably do a better job!

As usual so many senseless comments. Basically:
1. The Blackburn fans are atrocious hounding the manager out like this
2. He may not be up for the job but why should Steve Kean resign. He will get a payout when he is sacked
3. As far as the owners are concerned, yes they maybe hired the wrong guy, now they have to pay to get rid of him. They will be no shortage of applications for the new post (Kevin Gallacher is wrong about who would want the job) and the new man will try to negotiate a long contract as well just in case the fans hound him out as well
4. Nobody mentions the players. They have let the club down more than anybody. Only Robinson and Samba can come out with any credit. The rest are just there to collect their pay packets.
5. Just like for every club, if you the fans don't like whats going on at your club, don't go, don't renew your season ticket, don't buy the merchandise. Owners get your message much faster that way.

Blackburn fans have every right to voice their displeasure. Perhaps not to the level of abuse and torrent they spew, but they are right to voice their displeasure at Venkys and at Kean.
Not a Blackburn fan, but anyone with half a brain can see how they have no clue how to run a football club. They haven't invested any money into the club, in fact they've been skimming off the top. It's a tough position for Kean also as he's in a position where he's having to make do with a minimal budget, but his record is pretty poor considering Allardyce as about 10 points better off with virtually the same team!
The sad fact is that Kean will probably not get sacked because he's just signed a new contract so I imagine it will cost Venkys to terminate it. Further example of their incompetence, why give an underachiever a new contract? Plus let's be honest, even if they sacked him, who could they realistically bring in? Hughes turned down the villa job, so he's not even touching Blackburn with a barge pole!!

As a fan of a mid-table Championship side (i.e. no "leanings" towards any EPL team!), it's a shame to see the state that Blackburn are in just now.

Phil - aside from whether such abuse is justified, a key issue for me is whether there are any "top" managers out there who would actually take the job.

I don't see Kean as a long-term management prospect at Blackburn - too much too soon for him - and although there are some good managers who are unemployed/pundits just now, would any of them actually want to go and work for Venky's just now? I suspect that, unless Venky's have a strong personal relationship with a decent out-of-work manager, they may struggle to find takers for the vacancy.

I have sympathy for Kean, but he needs to walk away - he's not a Premiership level manager at the moment, and I just hope his experience at Blackburn doesn't haunt his future career. Some of the abuse goes beyond the pale, fans have every right to voice their dissatisfaction but some of the stuff aimed at Kean is just venom.

The longer this goes on, the more you have to wonder whether Venky's are just crazed fans who hate Blackburn and would gladly waste 40m just to see them relegated.

I find it crazy how they thought they would walk Blackburn into the Champions League and make Blackburn the no.1 team in India. The investment hasn't been one of the worst points but it clearly isn't good enough to achieve their aims. There's either a huge smokescreen around all this or Venky's simply have no idea of how to achieve their aims and don't have any advice on how to do so.

I think the sheer quality of players Blackburn have could keep them up if they make some good January signings but the fans will be stuck with Kean for a fair bit longer yet.

Undoubtedly some of the Blackburn fans have gone over the top in their protests against Kean. It's nothing new. They do have every right to complaign about his miserable performance with players who under another manager (such as Allerdyce), they would comfortably mid table.

As for Suarez, convicted of racial abuse. If that happened where most people worked, they would be sacked. So should he be.

If the rumours are true surround how Kean manoeuvred himself into this position at the expense of Allardyce you could argue the abuse he is receiving are little more than he deserves. While the owners watch on from afar wondering what the hell they got themselves into.

No 24 - How can you quantify Steve Kean is a good man , coach and manager etc . Let's get the facts correct - he was convicted of Drink Driving in August , during his arrest he lied to the Police . Also he has had a caution by Customs for smuggling Gold into the Country

Kean has told the local paper Salgado is injured - so in the next edition Salgado has stated he is fit and Kean will not play him because he will have to be offered a new contract .

They were speaking in Spanish to eachother, evra admitted that he did not believe Suarez to be racist, but Suarez did make a racist remark and has been punished. The 8 game ban is obviously precedent for their "kick out racism" campaign. Rooney got 3 game ban for swearing! What will be interesting is the judgement of terry's case and what ban (if any) he receives.

It is very sad but I've got to agree with those suggesting that the only reason Kean is still there is that he's waiting for a massive severance deal. Benitez managed to shamelessly bag 2 multi-million-pound pay-offs in six months so I can't see why Kean shouldn't play the same game.

I like how nobody is taking notice of the growing frustrations at Villa because of everything going on at Blackburn. If McLeish loses the next few games and carries on with his horrible style of football, this whole thing at Blackburn will start happening at Villa Park and the ferociousness will be even worse because of his Birmingham connections. I know Villa fans are currently planning to boycott home games and protests are currently being planned.

Yes it is a precendent and someone has to set it. Remember when Rio got his 18month ban, a City reserve player and i think a Division 2 player were convicted of the exact same thing months previous but got away with fines. Because Rio was at United and was high profile he was thrown to the dogs.

Liverpool have to accept this is the precedent and move on. Terry, I think is well and truly doomed if he is found guilty.

Why is the media feeding the frenzy of Kean's plight-ok he it may be right for him to leave but the media has not come out against the nastiness being directed at a manager. Its utterly digusting for the way he is being treated by the thugs who call themselves football fans. Why is Coyle at Bolton not being highlighted in the same way-he appears to be a media favourite-also Bolton fans do not apear to be calling for his sacking or if so not not doing in a feral way.

I think the FA are for more independent and unbiased than Liverpool so their statement is going to be far more relevant than Liverpool's.

No-one should be subject to the abuse that Steve Kean has to put up with but the fact is(and speaking as a neutral) he is clearly not good enough to manage at this level. His poor record speaks for itself. Yes there appear to be issues with the owners and quite honestly the sooner the Premier League tightens up its fit and proper person test the better but for his own and his families well being he should step back and recognize his own failings as he seems like a nice guy

THe transcript of their conversation was heard and available in the dalily mail online. FA are a joke, but utd have been stung plenty of times in the past by their whims, so it's surreal it's a liverpool player that's being stung now.

It's a disgrace that one individual is getting such a barage of abuse - what responsibility are the players taking - are they going to 'man up' and justify their extortionate wages, or just sit back and take the cash until the pot runs dry?

....and where are the mysterious stay-away owners? Did they really think they could buy into a club and make it a success with marginal investment and minimal backing/support....

...unfortunately, with the mega rich owners of the top clubs, every other club seems to be feeding on the scraps.......perhaps the fans need to just face facts that their players are simply not good enough, and regardless of who is in charge, that situation will not be remedied quickly.

Rovers are in real trouble, and with matches against Liverpool and Man Utd to come, it's going to look a lot worse in a few weeks time.

I hope that if Kean is sacked soon (which I'm sure he will be) that the fans show at least some support to the new manager, because from what I see, without any wholesale changes at the club in terms of players, even Fergie or Mourinho would struggle to turn the team into anything better than they currently are.....1st division/championship quality.

I think the reason Kean is hanging on in there are for the same reasons I do on Football Manager. He knows he's made a right mess of his job and knows his chances of future employment are slim to none!

Liverpool's statement was a knee-jerk reaction given minnutes after the verdict. Some of the lines are absurd. The ones about him being of mixed race, about him having black mates, something about 'Well Evra is a bad guy too' are plain childish, irrelevant to the whole story and make the whole club look foolish.

There's some tooth sucking criticism from some rather overly moral voices here. I've been to every Blackburn home game this season (I actually support Man U) and up to a month ago I had sympathy for Kean, they have been unlucky. But what Kean is doing is not 'spin' now; it is lying. He is not a manager and I'm sure he has done his best, he'll be hangingon for the payout and he deserves it. But the Blackburn fans are justly horrified. A year ago it was successful, small, well run club, and now it's a laughing stock.

Over the last few weeks Kean's dishonesty has robbed him of any dignity. The shame aimed at Blackburn belongs deservedly on his doorstep.

Wow, what utter nonsense I'm reading from folk that don't have the foggiest idea about what is going on at Ewood Park.

Now tell me this, would you accept a man at YOUR club who had won half a dozen games in 12 months? No, of course not.

These protests are dragging on and on due to the fact he was not been put out of his misery months ago- as he surely would have been anywhere else. No clubs fans would be any different.

BRFC fans don't have high expectations, but we were rightly proud of our club till just a year ago. Great management on and off the pitch, and a 'club' in every sense of the word .

Now we have increasing debts, no Chairman, no Chief Executive, no sponsor, no actual 'manager' and no points.

Steve Kean is no martyr, he is manager due to the fact his Agent and the 'advisors' of the owners are one and the same- a disgraceful conflict of interest that got a competent manager removed and drove out the club's board of directors.

Now Barclays are demanding repayments on debts and all future TV monies have been mortgaged.

Blackburn is a small town surrounded by other football towns- the club IS Blackburn as our 25000 average crowds prove, what is going on at Blackburn Rovers is an absolute scandal and any true football fans should share our pain- just like I did for Portsmouth.

I think this situation illustrates how a significant proportion of football supporters are - degenerate, low life, pub louts, and uneducated beings. Even 'innocent' terrace chnts that occur at every game, week in week out, are representative of a gormless section of society. Whether Steve Kean is at fault or not for Blackburns struggles, he certainly doesn't deserve to be treated like that. Why is it that sport can sometimes bring out the worst in human nature?

As an Aston Villa fan can I just point out that Emile Heskey is also racist.

Really appaling behaviour by Liverpool over the Suarez verdict...he himself said that he used a derogatary term against Evra...if you are not racist that doesnt mean u can use racist comments & get away with it... they should accept the verdict without any excuse..

I can remember hearing that Kean said that he should be judged after what he called a run of 'cup final' games. So how does he judge himself now that they have only taken three points and one win during that run? While also getting beat by teams in and around the bottom half of the table.

Does anyone know how he has rated his performance during the run he said was so important? Has he been honest or has he avoided the question?

I feel for Blackburn fans. The manager is clueless and has made a so-so team a woeful team. Surely he can accept he is not good enough to manage at this level. His ego, pride and ignorance will not keep Blackburn up.

Its' the Venky's Blackburn fans should be venting their anger at. They have made a complete hash of the whole club, appointing Kean was always a strange thing to do but then not to back him with the promised funds and players makes you wonder what their agenda is.

Like many of these so called "investors" they seem to put very little of their own money in themselves but alllow the club to rack up more and more debt.

Relegation will be followed by the inevitable financial crisis and downward spiral unless a new knight in shining armour can appear.

The title of the blog on the sport homepage of 'Kean optimism defies logic' simply perpetuates the idea that he should go.

Why should he not be optimistic? He has a contract and, presumably, the owners are happy with the man they have appointed. So, why shouldn't he be optimistic?

You mention how could he, and his wife, go through this? Well, what should he do? Resign? Throw away the money that might keep him and his wife comfortable in the future cause the chances are that people like you will never give him a chance in another football role.

Also, what do you know about the owners and their motives? They are abroad, didn't necessarily witness the scenes out of the ground and I imagine have their own ideas about what to do in the present situation.

All in all, the whole thing gives little credit to many, many people.

As for the game itself, it was of largely pathetic quality. Sure, you could argue that there was tension last night but, it is playing that sort of football that has got those two teams where they are in the first place.

I feel a little sorry for Kean. He does appear to be a little out of his depth but he can only deal with what players he has at his disposal and what does he have? Samba is a decent defender, Yakubu has scored some goals but the rest of the team is poor. MG Pedersen is a shadow of the player he was a few years ago and that was nothing special. Dunn is way past his best and the rest are very average. Blackburn are where they are because they simply are not good enough. Sacking Kean is the easy option and may be the right one but even if they do, no decent manager will want the job to work with a team that is going in the wrong direction and fast.

Venky's are to blame - they set up Venky's London so that if BRFC goes bust they walk away. Its a scam of monumental proportions for a quick quid - so much for the due diligence procedures.

In the meantime they pay peanuts for the club - sell our best players (Jones/ Holillett next) - sack all the big earning management and put a stooge in charge to run things and deflect the outrage whilst they cream it in Pune. Why does no one seem to see this?

As for Steve Kean's management ability - who did he play for? What credentials does he have? Can anyone name his number two?

So far as transfers we can only bring in players who have some connection to Anderson and the agents who brokered the deal - including one Scottish league reserve team player who is related to Anderson.

As for calling Rovers fans a disgrace please can those who are doing so enlighten us blues as to what on Earth we should be doing? Should we sit there and say nothing whilst our club is destroyed?

What we need is some help from our fellow PL teams otherwise it could be your club next.

have you ever thought that failure could be the plan for the owners. If the club goes under they can sell off the assets including the ground. These are likely to be more profitable than trying to maintain a football club

How does the money invested in that squad compare to other Premiership clubs?
..and yet...where exactly do they expect their team to be? They are currently bottom, but it's only a couple of wins away from safety.
At best they are a mid-table team and it's so tight in the table they could easily get there with a decent run.
If the fans perhaps got behind their team instead of heaping pressure on it, they might actually find themselves in mid-table..
