Just six British Olympians have won three or more Olympic gold medals.

Sir Steve Redgrave heads the list with five golds and one bronze in rowing between 1984 and 2000.

SIr Matthew Pinsent partnered Redgrave on the water to three victories and himself won four golds at successive Games.

Pinsent's feat was matched by Paul Radmilovic, who won three water polo titles and a swimming relay gold between 1908 and 1920.

Three men have won three golds apiece.

Jack Beresford won a medal at each of the five Games he competed at from 1920 to 1936 (two of them silver).

Reginald Doherty was the first Brit to win three gold medals, doing so in tennis at the 1900 and 1908 Olympics (he also won a bronze at the 1900 Games).

And Charles Sydney Smith was, like Radmilovic, part of Britain's dominant water polo side that won successive golds in the early part of the 20th Century.

Sailor Ben Ainslie appears to be on most people's minds when it comes to a Brit winning a third Olympic gold in Beijing.

But let's not forget cyclist Bradley Wiggins, who won gold in Athens four years ago and is looking to replicate the three gold medals he won at the World Championships in March.

Will either of these two join Britain's three-time Olympic winners in Beijing?
