Feels like NN is leaving 2011 like a scoulded dog sneaking off to hide in the corner and sulk.

Fewer and fewer people are watching. Talking and debating about the crisis seems less and less relevent, most people sense that and are entirely dismissive and apathetic to the established political process. A type of anarchistic response I suppose when faced with a system which has lost the respect of the people it is supposed serve.

NN won't take on the establishment, they are part of it, although it does display a degree of intellectual integrity which keeps its content above the moral poverty line on balance and for that I am grateful.

If I may offer a crumb of comfort if anyone on NN production team actually reads this stuff anymore, it is quite an achievement along with the world service it is the BBC's Alamo. But we all know how that story ends.

The dynamic has moved out of the intellectual sphere, out of the sphere of NN or the EP or Westminster or the ECB or the BoE. A triumph of cleverness over wisdom, cleverness is actually just intellectualised violence and until it is treated as such not much will change.

That is the que for the next stage and the reason why I dont really contribute in this sphere anymore... the time has passed when it could have made a difference.

It now moves onto the physical stage, the bit where mother nature rolls her sleeves up and 'gets serious' in order to redress an imbalance in the self regulating system she unconsciously presides over.

How that will be manifested one can only guess at this stage but in general terms, with the whole system so fragile there will be a focal point a 'Lehmans' type moment, big enough to set off a chain reaction. Unlike the Lehmans moment, the system is no longer strong enough to cut off a cascade effect from the focal point and one event will set off several others allready precariously in a metastable state until the stored energy contained within it is all burned up.

What will be left after that process is done ... who knows.

2012 will be a year which will be much talked about by generations to come.

Dave has probably misread his Bible. It doesn't actually say "Jesus saw the money lenders in the temple & said, 'You lot deserve a bonus! Now, let's make the poor poorer in order to pay for it'. " It said "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:24). I'm sure that the man from Ystradgynlais is both better read and more in touch than the stockbroker's son from Berkshire.

There is a dilemma: does one choose "Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit." (Proverbs 26:5) or instead "Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him." (Proverbs 26:4) Dave and Tony's many crass statements will continue to return to haunt them.

I decided that Paper Money Collapse was probably about as much as my low IQ (75-ish) could cope with.

Agreed the book reviews indicate that Detlev Schlichter does not provide any easy answers, by definition they do not exist or otherwise those 'policymakers' out there would be implementing them right now.

One or two contributors on these blogs have suggested 'survivalist' methods but that is hardly practical for the vast majority who live in urban environments.

I would think that NN's Paul Mason type-brain power is required to explore the possibilities post-paper (read elastic) money collapse although the rest of us could have a go.

Re Christopher Hitchens

He appeared to me to be quite a spiteful and uncaring man. And going by Paxman's interview of him (that was re-aired last night) quite a mixed-up man. I watched Hitchens' interview by Paxman last year and remember being bemused by much of what he said then, which all seemed rather contrite considering he was in the early stages of his cancer diagnosis/treatment. Hitchens was clearly articulate, but I guess you would expect that from him considering he was a 'words-man'. However his political views seemed rather confused and contradictory. He came across as a rather arrogant man in my opinion.

Watching the re-run of the interview last night and taking into consideration much of what has recently been posted by brown-dog, virtually all of Hitchens' entire political philosophy became clear. At the end of the interview he claimed to still be a socialist….IMHO he wasn't. He was clearly just another political anarchist just as his hero George Orwell was. Remember, the Bankers and their political puppets and the rest of the elite establishment are anarchists/deregulators who have taken over our system of democracy purely for their own financial/power gain. At the end of the day Hitchens was a supporter of them and not YOU.

Hitchens described himself as being a Marxist and a socialist in his early life and then gradually moving to the right, though remaining a socialist (!?!). He also stated that he had a huge dislike for diactatorships and the fascist-like radicals in the Muslim religion, as well as all other religions, though his emphasis was on the Muslim religion following 9/11. He went on to say that the freedom/emancipation of the women's movement was of paramount importance in a so-called 'civilised' society.

He really didn't respond at all when Paxman confronted him with the fact that he was viewed by many of his old liberal friends on the left as having turned into a Neocon in recent years i.e. being pro the Bush administration and the US being right in prosecuting the War-on-Terror in the ME.

If you look him up on his Wiki page it states he is from Jewish ancestry, if so, then this would certainly explain his high verbal intelligence i.e. being extremely articulate. As brown-dog has stated that this is a sign of feminine brain gender that is prevalent in those from Jewish backgrounds. He certainly was not a socialist in the Stalinist/Chinese sense. I believe he was more Trotskyite/Libertarian in the same way that Blair/Mandelson were in New Labour were and also Thatcher/Joseph were in their Neocon Conservatism (note how both parties were aligned with the Neocon libertarians Murdoch/Stelzer and their political agency in the UK - News International). Hitchens may not have believed he was a Neocon (though debatable following 9/11) but he could certainly be described as a Neoliberal. In the interview he spoke of feeling as though he was born in the wrong country (he was born in the UK of course) and that the US had been a 'draw' to him from a very early age, eventually moving there and becoming a US citizen. He was obviously attracted to the freedoms of the US and it's deregulatory environment. He certainly didn't move there for its socialist values and workers rights I guess. He was quite clearly a cosmopolitan aka an International Socialist that many from the Jewish communities are.

I puzzled for years over the 'male-ising' of Earth, being forced to postulate Yin and Yang segments of the galaxy (redolent of the Yin/Yang 'double tadpole'). Then I read McGilchrist: "The Master and His Emissary"; in which he reminds me the World is AS WE PERCEIVE IT (magnified by feedback) and we perceive it EVER MORE LEFT-BRAINED.

Personally, I blame language; the connection is obvious.

I still hold the view that the configuration of the individual mind is where control of the mass lies, not in regulation and mechanism.
