Initially, Rob didn't give much away about his mysterious parents.
Ursula and Rob’s then fiancé Helen Archer found themselves at cross purposes straightaway, as Ursula initially mistook Helen for the cleaner. She had no idea that Rob was engaged or even who Helen was. She made no secret to Rob that she finds Helen an “unconventional” choice.
It took a long time for Helen to finally meet her mother-in-law in the flesh, and to judge for herself whether the picture painted by Rob is an accurate one.
Ursula quickly got her feet under the table at Blossom Hill Cottage when she came to stay for the half term break. Indeed, she ended up outstaying her welcome in Helen’s eyes! Attentive and opinionated, Ursula has the same strong skills of persuasion as her son…

Carolyn's thoughts on Ursula
Carolyn feels enormous sympathy for Ursula and says she has realised "how deeply she loves her second born and that she has always defended him in some very strained family situations".
Some of the most interesting scenes for Carolyn have been those with husband Bruce Titchener. "There is a serious storyline there which has definitely contributed to the wildly dysfunctional family I think the Titcheners are", says Carolyn.

Carolyn's career included working for Lord Olivier and Paul Raymond as well as appearing in London’s West End, the BBC Radio Rep, sundry fringe theatres and a host of provincial playhouses countrywide.
She trained at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art where the Academy’s then principal sent her whole year group to meet the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (around about the time The Beatles did the same).
Carolyn's work on The Archers brought her back to Birmingham; the bygone home of a certain infamous Midland Motel, where as Sharon Metcalfe she ran the Motel’s garage for several years. Carolyn vividly remembered being chased up New Street by a serious group of furious, fraught ladies with very sharp umbrellas when, in the previous evening’s episode of Crossroads, her character had implied that her fellow garage employee (Bubble-hatted Benny) might have been implicated in a murder!
