Theresa May was appointed Home Secretary in May 2010. With responsibility for the police, immigration and terrorism she has control of one of the largest and most challenging briefs in government.
"I have always just tried to get on with what I’m doing"Theresa May
She is the most senior woman in the cabinet, and has been arguably the most significant woman in the Conservative Party since 2002, when as party chairman she coined the phrase the “nasty party”. Her diagnosis of the party’s image problem led the way to modernisation and her work devising the party’s ‘A list’ is credited with increasing the number of women MPs.
