Sara Thornton has been Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police since 2007. She started her career at the Metropolitan Police in 1986, before joining Thames Valley Police in November 2000 as Assistant Chief Constable for Specialist Operations. She was made Deputy Chief Constable in 2003 and elected vice-president of the Association of Chief Police Officers in 2011.

She received the Queen’s Police Medal in 2006 and was awarded a CBE in 2011 for services to the police.
