The eldest of sister of Phyllis and Adeline, Sylvia comes from aristocratic Marshall stock and married money when she married Gabriel Graham. Sylvia and her Folkestone councillor husband are parents to Isabel, Cressida, Juliet and Freddie.
She has a strong sense of civic duty, and the war gives her the opportunity to play a greater role in public life.
