Margaret Hodge has been Chairman of Public Accounts since June 2010. She has been MP for Barking since 1994.

She worked in market research and consultancy before being elected as councillor for the London Borough of Islington in 1973. She was a co-nominator for Tony Blair's bid for leadership of the Labour Party and joined his government in 1998, becoming the first Minister for Children in 2003. She continued to serve as a junior minister under Gordon Brown before her return to the backbenches.
