Zaha Hadid is a British-Iraqi architect and the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize (2004). Born in Baghdad, she took a degree in maths before moving to London to study architecture. She established her practice in London in 1980, and hit the headlines in 1994 with her design for a new opera house in Cardiff.

Today, Zaha Hadid Architects employs over 350 people. She has handled over 950 projects internationally, including the design of the Aquatics Centre of the London 2012 Olympic Games. She was awarded a CBE in 2002 and made a Dame in 2012.
