Profile: Kimberly Melville
Kimberly's film Saints and Sinners focuses on an unusual use for a church in Bournemouth.
Why did you pick this subject for Fresh?
After hearing from a friend about this club's controversial location, I felt it was really intriguing. I immediately wanted to know more about how people felt in the community, no matter what religion.
I really wanted to share this crazy idea with a broader audience!
What motivated you to make this film?
I think the idea of such a fresh and original concept was alluring, especially the controversy of it. Having a club within a church is something unheard of so I really wanted to share this crazy idea with a broader audience!
What equipment did you use to shoot the film?
We shot with a Canon C300.
Tell us about post-production.
My amazing editor David Kotai did all the post-production, editing and grading with Avid while also mixing the sound himself.
Who/what inspires you?
I'm really inspired by directors Tim Burton and Edgar Wright. Tim Burton's attraction to gothic style narratives and stunning visuals have always inspired me into creating a world of my own with cinema. Edgar Wright is just a genius when it comes to comedy and a master in inventing entertaining camera techniques to illustrate his films.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to work further on directing commercials, feature films and drama series'. As well as writing my own stories!
What is the most important thing you have learned so far?
That having an amazing idea means nothing if you don't have a hard working and talented crew to back you up!
