Profile: Jason Caines and Katya Ochagavia
Jason and Katya describe what motivated them to make this film about Stockwell skatepark.
Why did you pick this subject for Fresh?
Long Live Stockwell is a film made in support of Stockwell Skatepark and the skatepark preservation group, Friends of Stockwell Skatepark. Stockwell is one of the oldest skateparks in the world and is home to a thriving community of skaters and BMXers.
What motivated you to make this film?
Stockwell has an amazingly diverse skate scene, filled with interesting characters. Also the skatepark preservation group ,Friends of Stockwell Skatepark, motivated us to support Stockwell through making this film and spread awareness about the park, its history, its community and its future.
What equipment did you use to shoot the film?
We used a mix of Canon 5d's and Canon 550d's to shoot the film and we self edited this documentary using Final Cut.
Who/what inspires you?
Katya and I are inspired by our growing skate creative network, The No Comply Network. It's a network of skateboarders, artists, musicians and filmmakers, who work creatively and collaborate together on rad projects.
What are your plans for the future?
To make more films, keep skateboarding, to learn as much as we can about everything and to keep getting stoked on life because it's rad.
What is the most important thing you have learned so far?
Don't let creative projects stay in your head. True creativity isn’t just about having ideas, it is about putting those ideas into action.
