Seven works of art created in Guantanamo
The Art of Now: Guantanamo explores art created by inmates at the American military prison in Guantanamo Bay and the controversy that ensued when it was displayed at John Jay College, New York in the autumn of 2017. These images show six paintings and a sculpture which are discussed in the podcast.
Statue of Liberty by Muhammad Ansi

Muhammad Ansi was detained in Guantanamo for 14 years, 11 months and 27 days before being transferred to Oman. He was never charged with any offence.
Titanic by Muhammad Ansi

Ansi created this image of the Titanic from memories of the 1997 film, which he was shown during interrogation.
Titanic by Khaled Qasim

Khaled Qasim remains in Guantanamo after over 15 years and 11 months. He has never been charged.
Shipwrecked Boat by Djamel Ameziane

Djamel Ameziane was detained for 11 years, 11 months and 18 days and never charged.
Model Ship by Moath al-Alwi

Moath al-Alwi created this model ship from scraps of cardboard and rubbish. He remains in Guanatano after over 16 years and has never been charged.
Binoculars Pointing at the Moon by Ahmad Rabbani and Vertigo at Guantanamo by Ammar al-Baluchi

Ahmad Rabbani has been in Guantanamo for over 13 and a half years and has not been charged. Ammar al-Baluchi has been in Guantanamo for over 11 and a half years. He is charged with helping facilitate the 9/11 attacks.
