Eight pop stars who would kill it on the new series of Strictly Come Dancing

Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens this weekend, with the line-up including Louise Nurding and Anastacia who both know a thing or two about pop music.

Both of these stars are impressive, but we had hopes that we'd see some more modern pop talent taking to the dancefloor this year. Here's our (woefully unrealistic) hopes for music A-listers we think would make perfect additions to the Strictly line-up in 2016.

Christine & The Queens

Heloise Letisser would have been the breakthrough pop act of 2016 on her music alone, but it was Christine & The Queens' electrifying performance on Jools Holland that really got the ball rolling for this huge new talent.

Calum Scott

We have no evidence that Calum Scott can dance, but since he's been singing about it for over a year now, perhaps it's time for him to put his money where his mouth is? He'd be a cheap booking too, he's happier without a partner on the dancefloor, or so he's been telling us.

Matt Healy (The 1975)

Who'd have thought? Matty really proved his moves in The 1975's Change Of Heart video. More than that, he told a story with his performance and a pretty moving one at that. We'd have him down as the dark horse of the competition.

Jason Derulo

There's a touch of Michael Jackson in Jason Derulo's moves and he's been judging dance shows in the US since 2012. Jason recently dropped a greatest hits collection, so now feels like the perfect time to pause the pop career and show us exactly how it's done on the dancefloor.

Zara Larsson

Zara Larsson has it all. A perfect popstar with A-grade tunes and her effortless sense of cool makes those dance routines seem like second nature. She could be a real Strictly contender.

Aluna Francis (from AlunaGeorge)

Here's someone who could really light a fire under this year's Strictly Come Dancing. Forget the salsa or the foxtrot, no one in pop brings the carnival vibes more than Aluna who has the some of finest winding hips in the mainstream. Book her.

Usher

Chris Brown, Jason Derulo, Justin Bieber and Timberlake - all smooth pop movers who followed in the footsteps of this talented man. Usher is the modern master of the dance routine and can arouse a nation with a few simple steps. An appearance on Strictly might need to push the show after the watershed, however.

Drake

Sorry Drake, you're off in week one. Hotline Bling may have featured the jig that launched that launched a thousand gifs, but it scores low with the experts. He even makes Judy Murray look like a natural.
