Interactive Episode FAQs

How is the episode ‘interactive’?

This is a drama where you control the story. There will be moments during the episode where you must make decisions. The results of your choices will affect the course of the action.

Are the characters based on real people?

No - the characters are fictional but what happens to them is based on a variety of real accounts of soldiers who fought in World War One - and the choices you make. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

What are ‘Tactics,’ ‘Morale’ and ‘Leadership’? How are they calculated?

At the end of each part of the story, you will find out more about the choices you made. You will also be given feedback around ‘Tactics’, ‘Morale’ and ‘Leadership.’

Tactics is based on what would have been the militarily correct decision in 1916. The higher the score, the more accurately your choices reflect what a soldier at the time would have done.

Morale reflects how the choices you’ve made affect the mood of the men. The higher the score, the happier the other characters are about your decisions. It is possible for this to be at odds with the best tactical decisions.

Leadership is a cumulative score that builds up across all 3 parts of the story. It is based on an average of your Tactics and Morale score for each act. It provides an indication of your overall success as a leader.

How do I win/lose?

Whilst making the decisions that best reflect those of a contemporary solider will give you the highest leadership score, the interactive episode is not about winning or losing but about coming to understand something of the experience of young soldiers in 1916.
