The Top 10 productions you’d love to see Lynda stage this Christmas.

The village hall is spick and span, the stage curtains are in place, and Lynda has a new Girl Friday – Kate Madikane.

But what show should they choose to delight the village, after last year’s Calendar Girls triumph?

10. Waiting for Godot

Brian, Jim and Joe would be perfectly cast as Vladimir, Estragon and Pozzo in Samuel Beckett’s modern classic. Not much opportunity for the Button sisters’ dance display though?

9. Amadeus

This re-imagining of Peter Shaffer’s tale of musical machinations sees Mozart’s rival Salieri played by Lynda’s llama, Salieri. (Wipe-clean costumes required in case of spitting).

8. South Pacific

Helen would star as Nellie Forbush in this epic musical. Her performance of ‘I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair’ (with Kaz and Kirsty on backing vocals) is a guaranteed show-stopper.

7. The Romans in Britain

Howard Brenton’s brutal depiction of imperialism and the abuse of power would undoubtedly be a controversial choice. But Jim Lloyd would be an excellent historical adviser.

6 Dick Whittington

A traditional pantomime with an Ambridge twist: Rob, in the title role, leaves for London and never returns, accompanied by his mother Ursula as Puss.

5. Don Giovanni

Rob could also play the lead in Mozart’s tragic opera, with Helen as Anna his victim, Kirsty as her avenging friend Ottavio and Tony as her father the Commendatore. The story ends with Don Giovanni dragged down to Hell (cue wild applause). [Nelson on The Archers blog]

4. The Rivals

Sheridan’s Restoration comedy (or Resurgam comedy, Lynda?) would be a perfect vehicle for Susan as Mrs Malaprop, to make up for her mixed experience in Calendar Girls. And she would be fully clothed throughout.

3. Macbeth

This production of Shakespeare’s ‘Scottish play’ would see Ursula Titchener star as Lady Macbeth, chilling the audience with the famous ‘Out, damn’d spot’ speech as she scrubs away at bloodstains…

2. Hair

A 1960s American hippy musical seems a natural fit for Kate’s debut as assistant director. Breaking the news to Susan and fellow cast members that there are scenes like Calendar Girls, but without the props, might be a challenge. [Shelagh on The Archers blog]

1. The Sound of Music

Carol and Anna Tregorran, fresh from their trip to Salzburg and the Alps, would be perfect costume and set advisers, and the whole village could dress up and sing along to the opening number: Lakey Hill is alive with The Sound of Music! [@annatregorran on Twitter]

Thank you for all of your suggestions. That's a decade of Ambridge Christmas productions assured.
