The first woman conductor of the Last Night of the Proms, US conductor Marin Alsop is a remarkable force in classical music worldwide. Ahead of her concert at the Edinburgh International Festival with the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra, she joins Deborah Bull for an in-depth conversation about her life and work.
In addition to directing the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, Marin Alsop is also the music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and returns to the BBC Proms for a performance at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday 24 August. The concert will be broadcast on both BBC Four and BBC Radio 3.
