Terms & Conditions

An independent panel of judges selects the top ten Woman’s Hour Power List 2014 – Game Changers.

The judging panel is made up of experts from a variety of backgrounds. There will be no conflict of interest for any judge from the ‘Power List 2014 – Game Changers’ or its final top ten Powerlisters.

Emma Barnett will chair all judging meetings and discussions.

Apart from being female, each of the top ten women selected should also be alive and be a UK National and /or resident in the UK and/ or regularly working in the UK.

The judges’ decisions are based on the criteria of the 'Game Changer' set out by the chair.

The chair will guide judges on choosing the top ten through a variety of areas including, but not exclusive to:

• Changing work (eg. work life balance/ renegotiating work and how we do it/gender balance/pay)

• Changing how we live (eg. relationships/ family/ friends/communities/ consumer/ retail)

• Changing culture (eg. women who’ve had an impact in the arts, but also culture in the wider sense of society eg the sexualised society that girls growing up in)

• Changing how we communicate or campaign (eg through social media)

• Changing politics (eg. getting more women elected/better representation/getting the politics that people want to engage in)

• Changing business (eg. how we do business and how we relate to big business)

As well as their own suggestions, the judges may take note of comments and suggestions gathered from Woman’s Hour listeners (via the Woman’s Hour website/ Power List blog). Listeners’ emails, social media or letters may be read out on air, published online or otherwise used by BBC in any media in connection with the programme. Although listeners may make suggestions, this does not constitute part a formal nominations procedure.

Judges may also take suggestions from their own personal social media sites – for example Twitter. Again, the public can suggest, but this does not constitute part of the formal nominations process.

The Woman’s Hour production team may provide 'Expert Witnesses' for the judges in any specialist area. For example, Robert Peston on business affairs. The judges may also refer to the findings of the 2013 Power List Top 100 for suggestions, or be inspired by content from any Woman’s Hour guest.

All members of the panel are able to express their opinions freely and openly as part of the process.

Some of the deliberation processes will be broadcast, published online or on social media, but without prior consent from the judges. The chair’s decision is final. The panel’s list of the top ten women on the Woman’s Hour Power List 2014 – Game Changers will be published through the BBC on April 9th 2014.
