Leicester Senzala Capoeira Group Capoeira can be described as a 'Martial Dance', developed by African slaves in Brazil over 400 years ago. These days, Capoeira has spread through the borders of Brazil to the rest of the world, where you can find different schools and groups teaching the art from their own perspectives. The Leicester Senzala Group was formed by two Capoeiristas (Capoeira players), Tim and Christos, under the guidance of their teacher Professor Carousel, one of the founders of Group Senzala Anglia. Recently, The Leicester Senzala Group took part in the Leicester African Caribbean Carnival 2004. The Midsummer Players This group of singers formed predominantly to raise funds for the Disabled Access Fund at the Little Theatre. They are led by Debbie Turley, a long-standing member of the Leicester Drama Society. Once the Players had enough members, they decided to make their next show into a musical. The following year they put together a new show performed in Whetstone, ‘We're In The Mood’, which featured songs from the 30s/40s era, again as a fund raising event. This year they have performed an hour’s West End cabaret of songs in Kirby Muxloe to raise funds for the Children’s Society. Diana Sharp
