The process and quality control
Many parts of the BBC follow a set delivery process, and if you are supplying websites or products to these areas then your work will need to go through these quality gates before making it to the live website.
Your BBC contact will tell you whether or not you are required to do this, but to see how this works, please look at:
The presentation explains the quality gates, with case studies of BBC Three and the CBBC refresh. The Product Checklist gives examples of the sort of questions that will be asked at the quality gate meetings.
Global Experience Language
We are evolving a global experience language for the BBC's digital services.
The Global Visual Language 3.0 guidelines are a reference point for all designers creating BBC websites (future iterations will also incorporate mobile and IPTV recommendations), and are available now from the Global Experience Language site.
You can also read Bronwyn Van Der Merwe's blog post about the Global Visual Language and the history of design on bbc.co.uk.
BBC Standards and Guidelines
This site details all standards & guidelines for developing and delivering products and services for BBC online. Accessibility is a key feature of BBC sites and the standards and guidelines will help you tick all the necessary boxes.
Access to approved independent suppliers can be arranged by contacting Red Bee Webmasters with a request to access the 'Restricted Standards and Guidlines' area of bbc.co.uk. You will be required to fill out a request form (only accessible from within the BBC network).
When you have these access rights, please visit the Standards & Guidelines site.
