BBC World Service sweeps the board

The Newshour team celebrate their win

The BBC World Service swept the board at the 2008 Sony Radio Academy Awards held in London on Monday night.

The World Service picked up nine awards, four of them gold.

The results were:

GOLD for Newshour - Best News and Current Affairs Programme
GOLD for Owen Bennett-Jones - News Journalist of the Year
GOLD for World Have Your Say in the Listener Participation Award
GOLD for the Bangladesh Boat Project in the Multiplatform Radio Award

SILVER for the Assassination of Benazir Bhutto in the Breaking News Award
SILVER for Benazir Bhutto: the Investigation in the News Feature Award
SILVER for The Interview in the Speech Programme Award

BRONZE for Live Event Coverage Award for the World Today: Chinese Congress
BRONZE in the Promo Award for ' India Rising'.
