Parc Slip, a 305 acre ex-colliery, is a reserve managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales.

It has a range of environments including woodlands, wetlands and meadows and is designed to provide wildlife with the habitats it needs. Some of the rare species which call Parc Slip home are great crested newt, brown hare, lapwing, bullfinch, linnet, adder, brown banded bee and shrill carder bee.
The ponds on the reserve provide a habitat for 20 species of dragonfly and 26 species of butterfly. Insects of course, are prey for birds; the likes of little grebe, skylark, mallard, tufted duck, teal, goosander, pochard and snipe are present either all year round or as winter visitors. The reserve has hides for wildlife watching.
A small area of grassland is set aside from the wetland as a special butterfly environment.
