Six Bells Miners' Memorial timelapse footage

Timelapse video footage of the construction of the new Six Bells Miners' Memorial by sculptor Sebastien Boyesen, showing the 20m sculpture being assembled by crane.

Renowned sculptor Boyesen was commissioned to design and build the new Six Bells Miners Memorial to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the 1960 Six Bells Colliery disaster on 28 June 2010.

Costing £200,000, the memorial is a 12.6m high statue of a miner constructed of slices of corten steel standing on a 7.4m high sandstone face plinth. The name, age and occupation of each of the 45 victims has been laser cut into the corten steel band that surrounds the plinth.
