Inside Out East: Life Without Hair

BBC East's Inside Out team follow Sian as she embarks on an emotional journey in search of a treatment for her Alopecia.

Essex girl Sian lost her hair when she was just 12 years old and has endured nearly a decade of bullying by children and adults.

Sian is one of around a million people in the UK who experience extreme hair loss (Alopecia) and her self confidence has suffered.

Although not always easy she was able to cover her head by wearing a wig.

What was more difficult was losing her eyebrows and eyelashes – "they just looked painted on, sometimes you'd be out and one would rub off," she says.

Inside Out East follows Sian's first visit to a special clinic in Milton Keynes that is offering her hope for a more normal future.

The clinic explains the procedure they use and carry out some tests to ensure it is suitable for each client. The results are both dramatic and effective.
