BBC Three commissions
one-off special, American Pregnancy Cult

In a small fishing village in Massachusetts 17 schoolgirls who attend the same Catholic High school are all currently expecting a baby. Did the 16 year old girls make a pact or is this a freak co-incidence?

BBC Three has commissioned a 1 x 60-minutes special from October Films which takes us behind the scenes of this remarkable true story and seeks to uncover the truth behind what happened to these 17 American girls.

BBC Three continues to tackle the important issues facing young people today with a brand new season of films which examine the relationship between teenagers and religion – the first of which to be announced is American Pregnancy Cult (working title).

Filming has begun in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

The film was commissioned by the Controller of BBC Three Danny Cohen and Commissioning Editor Harry Lansdown.

Directed by James Quinn, with Executive produced for October Films, Denman Rooke and Executive Producer for the BBC, Harry Lansdown.

Danny Cohen says: "This is a situation which is happening right now in a small American town.

"As well as being fascinating contemporary story about young people, it also has a broader religious and social backdrop that we aim to explore in the film."
