Press Releases Gina McKee and Jeremy Northam tell Fiona's Story on BBC One

Bafta-nominated Gina McKee (The Street, Tsunami) and acclaimed actor Jeremy Northam (The Tudors, Gosford Park) will star in Fiona's Story – a powerful one-off drama for BBC One exploring one woman's fight to hold her family together after her husband is accused of downloading indecent images of children from the internet.

Written by newcomer Kate Gabriel – and based on extensive research – Fiona's Story is a 90-minute in-house BBC Scotland production for BBC One, scheduled to transmit in 2008/09.

Filming on the distinctive drama began filming in Glasgow this month for four weeks.

The drama will be produced by David Boulter (He Kills Coppers, EastEnders), directed by Adrian Shergold (He Kills Coppers, Low Winter Sun) and executive produced by Matthew Read.

Anne Mensah, Head of Drama for BBC Scotland, says: "Fiona's Story is an amazing piece of writing. It has an emotional intensity at its heart which captivates everyone who reads the script.

"It is fantastic that we have the wonderful acting skills of Gina McKee and Jeremy Northam as well as the direction of Adrian Shergold, who will, without doubt, deliver performances as powerful as the writing and subject matter. "

Producer David Boulter adds: "Fiona's Story is the heartbreaking tale of a marriage breaking down. Its power lies in writer Kate Gabriel's original voice, which has attracted top level talent across the board."

Fiona's Story continues in the footsteps of distinctive productions from BBC Scotland including God On Trial (Hat Trick Productions, BBC Two), Purves & Pekkala (Pirate Productions, BBC One), Hope Springs (Shed Productions, BBC One), P.A.s (2AM TV, BBC Three), Wallander (Left Bank Films, BBC One) and Phoo Action for BBC Three.

It is the latest in a recent wave of exciting BBC drama commissions for 2008/2009, including The Mary Whitehouse Story for BBC Two and The Anne Frank Diaries for BBC One.

As part of the BBC Fiction department, BBC Drama is committed to bold and challenging story-telling and, in the last 12 months alone, has produced the Bafta-nominated Stuart: A Life Backwards (BBC Two) about a homeless man with muscular dystrophy, and Coming Down The Mountain (BBC One), a drama about two brothers, one of whom has Down's Syndrome.

Fiona's Story was commissioned by Jane Tranter, Controller, Fiction, BBC.
