BBC TWO has commissioned a new cookery series with Nigella Lawson for this Christmas that will see Nigella make her first ever series for the BBC.

Roly Keating, Controller of BBC TWO, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to welcome Nigella to BBC TWO.

"Nigella is a uniquely talented and distinctive cook and this new series will be a real treat for BBC TWO viewers this Autumn."

The programmes will focus on Christmas - the last great date in the culinary calendar.

For Nigella's Christmas Kitchen, Nigella is back in her kitchen at a time when the nights are drawing in and most of us are up for a bit of extended kitchen work.

As the last bastion of traditional cooking, Christmas is a time when we are more than prepared to spend whole days stirring, stuffing and marinating  but we also need the vital short cuts that make for an enjoyable experience for  cooks and guests alike.

As always, Nigella's mantra in the series will be that cooking can be pleasurable, and there are always ways to eradicate stress.

Christmas is a great excuse to potter about in the kitchen, to slow down, take cover from the frenzy of the holiday season and realise how comforting it can be to cook.

The series is commissioned by Elaine Bedell, BBC Commissioning Editor, Features and Factual Entertainment, from independent production company Flashback Television.

Elaine Bedell said: " I'm really pleased that Nigella is working with the BBC.

"I think she's perfect for us, she's a unique talent and these Christmas shows will be very special - a gorgeous, rich treat."

David Edgar, Executive Producer, Flashback Television, commented: "The BBC is committed to distinctive cooking programmes and I'm delighted that viewers will see Nigella cooking again on our screens this year."

In the three pre-Christmas programmes Nigella lays out her philosophy for not only coping with but actively enjoying cooking during the festive season.

Nigella helps us to deal with pre-Christmas entertaining, Christmas baking (including recipes that have dropped off the Christmas list) and the traditional Christmas dinner.

And she will deliver her method of cooking a turkey guaranteed not to disappoint.

The series will also include an element of travel, to provide some inspiration for the recipes.

A trip to a Salzburg Christmas market will be the inspiration for cinnamon biscuits, Christmas stollen and a brandy-infused hot chocolate.

Notes to Editors

Nigella's Christmas Kitchen is a working title.
