"We have taken note of the statement in
the House of Commons today that the debate on the BBC's Charter & Agreement will be held on Monday 10 July and the comments made from both sides of the House about the timetable for publication of the BBC's Annual Report & Accounts.
"Publication has long been confirmed with the Culture
Media and Sports Select Committee for Tuesday 11 July with their
annual hearing with the BBC that morning.
"However, in the light of the BBC Commons debate now scheduled for Monday July
10, the Governors are persuaded of the importance of the House having receipt
of the BBC's Annual Report & Accounts for 2005/2006 in good time for their
debate.
"The only practical date for advancing publication is Friday
7 July and the Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport has agreed
to lay the document in Parliament on the BBC's behalf on the same date.
"We are mindful of the remembrance events scheduled for the morning of Friday
7 July in memory of those killed a year before and will delay publication
until later in the day."
