BBC Scotland will bring live television coverage of the Celtic Cup - a new international
track and field event which will be staged for the first time this summer.
The broadcaster will feature the top flight action from the competition between
Scotland, Wales and Ireland as it happens at Grangemouth Stadium on Tuesday 17
August.
Dougie Donnelly will lead BBC Scotland's two hour coverage of a contest which
promises to one of the most exciting athletics events in Scotland for many
years.
The meeting, which has been organised by scottishathletics and is being
supported by Falkirk Council, will also feature several high-profile guest
athletes from overseas.
A team of Scottish youngsters will also get the opportunity to take on the
international stars, representing a special Bank of Scotland 2014 Team.
Double Commonwealth medallist Lee McConnell will captain the home nation on what
is likely to be her only competitive appearance in Scotland this year.
David Harron, Editor, TV Sport, BBC Scotland, said: "We are delighted to be
covering the Celtic Cup tournament at Grangemouth, and are confident this will
bring high quality athletics action to a Scottish audience, with some world-
class performers on show.
"Given the success of many Scottish sportsmen and women in Melbourne, and
Scotland's bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, this is a great time for us
to demonstrate our commitment to Scottish sport with two hours of live
television.".
