Farah Durrani, Executive Producer, BBC Current Affairs, has decided to leave the BBC to work in the independent sector.

Farah's portfolio over the last year has included, The New Al Qaeda: Frontline Pakistan with Peter Taylor and White Smoke - The Election of a Pope, together with a recent series of successful political documentaries including Tired and Emotional and You Have My Full Confidence for BBC FOUR.

Farah began her career in BBC Local Radio and then moved to television, joining the Multicultural Programmes team at BBC Pebble Mill.

In 1992 she joined the BBC's Current Affairs Department and helped launch the foreign affairs strand, Correspondent. She has made documentaries all over the world from Bosnia and Kashmir to China.

In 1998, Farah was named Sky Journalist of Year for Women in Film and Television and in 1999, she was awarded the EMMA journalist award.

In 1999 she was appointed Deputy Editor of Correspondent and was responsible for programmes which went on to win the Grierson and RTS Journalism awards.

In 2001 Correspondent was awarded the RTS documentary strand of the year and Farah moved to be executive producer for BBC TWO and BBC FOUR Specials.

Head of Current Affairs, George Entwistle said: "Farah has been a determined and passionate film maker, who's made a big contribution to the success of the department.

"She has secured some remarkable access across a range of programmes; I know she'll be missed, but I am confident that her talents will secure her well in the independent sector."
