Sali Collins - formerly a senior editor with BBC Radio Five Live - has been announced as the new Editor of BBC Radio Wales.

Sali is currently Project Manager, Broadcast Development at BBC Wales. "It will be a great honour and challenge to lead Wales's only English language national radio station," said Sali.

"I'm really enthusiastic about the job and the opportunity to build on Radio Wales's success."

Sali began her career with BBC Wales news before joining the BBC's radio station for London, GLR, where she became deputy controller.

At Five Live, she was the editor of the award-winning Five Live Breakfast programme and oversaw the introduction to the station of key presenters such as Nicky Campbell and Simon Mayo.

She was also the editor of Five Live's comprehensive coverage of the 2002 football World Cup in Japan and Korea.

A former pupil of Llanhari Comprehensive School and a fluent Welsh-speaker, Sali was brought up in Barry but now lives in Cardiff with her husband and two children.

Sali takes over as Editor from Julie Barton who led Radio Wales to some of its highest listening figures ever in 2005.
