BBC Radio @ SXSW 2006 - Morrissey headlines BBC Radio showcase

"South By Southwest, without a shadow of a doubt the greatest music festival in the world." -

Stuart Maconie, BBC Radio 2

BBC Radio has announced its programming for this year's SXSW - the South By Southwest music festival that takes place in Austin, Texas between 15 and 18 March 2006.

Highlights include a BBC Radio 2 artist showcase, held in partnership with the UK at SXSW group, featuring Morrissey, Goldfrapp, The Zutons, Corinne Bailey Rae and Richard Hawley.

The internationally renowned festival takes place over four days and features over a thousand bands and artists - ranging from music legends to newcomers performing in a variety of venues from stadiums to small bars.

Programming will be introduced by some of BBC Radio's leading music authorities - Mark Lamarr, Steve Lamacq, Zane Lowe and Stuart Maconie.

Zane Lowe presents a four hour live special on BBC Radio 1; Stuart Maconie fronts two special editions of Radio 2's drivetime show from Austin; Steve Lamacq hosts shows for both Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music and Mark Lamarr introduces a primetime SXSW special on Radio 2 on Saturday night, featuring highlights from the festival.

Live coverage and highlights from the four day event are part of a special Texan season on Radio 2 and 6 Music. Schedule details below.

A BBC 6 Music UK showcase features KT Tunstall, Editors, Jim Noir, The Feeling and Brakes.

Radio 1's SXSW artist showcase features Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Guillemots, Boy Kill Boy, Dirty Pretty Things and a special guest. The performances will be recorded for future Zane Lowe shows and a Lamacq Live Special on Monday 20 March 2006.

SXSW is an influential platform for British talent; James Blunt and the Kaiser Chiefs were amongst the acts creating a buzz at the event last year. This year even more British acts are due to participate.

BBC Radio's programmes will be supported by a comprehensive website which will include photos, audio and video - bbc.co.uk/southbysouthwest.

The site launches on Wednesday 15 February 2006 and will include information about the festival, on-air schedules and a Best of British section.

The website will be behind the scenes at the shows and out and about at the festival bringing all the latest news and gossip.

In addition, all the shows will also be available to hear again for seven days via the BBC Radio Player.
