Children in Need
Kat Slater's wedding dress - one of the Great Big Bid items

The BBC Children in Need Appeal – bigger than ever!

The Great Big Bid - a new primetime programme for BBC Children in Need

The Great Big Bid is a brand-new week of primetime BBC ONE shows raising money for BBC Children in Need 2005.

It'll be kicking off with a glittering red carpet, celebrity gala auction at BBC Television Centre hosted by Terry Wogan and Natasha Kaplinsky.

During the week running up to the Appeal the Gala will be followed by a half-hour daily entertainment show hosted by Eammon Holmes running from Monday 14 to Thursday 17 at 7.00pm on BBC ONE with more exciting items for viewers to bid for plus the latest news from The Great Big Bid website.

And BBC Children in Need has joined forces with ebay.co.uk who are powering a special online trading website bbc.co.uk/greatbigbid so the nation's fundraisers can auction off their own unwanted household treasures, bid for Star Items donated by celebrities, or iconic props, costumes and memorabilia from BBC shows in Buy What You BBC.

In the programme we'll have the stories behind the items and viewers can take part in the Bid A Quid competition.

Star Items donated by celebrities include a book of poems and lyrics written and signed by Paul McCartney, a Christian Lacroix tiara donated by Emma Noble, a first edition of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, signed by JK Rowling and donated by Newsround's Lizo Mzimba, tea with Joseph Fiennes and a pack of men's briefs signed by Alan Davies!

A tie and glasses from Michael Howard MP, leader of the Conservative Party, as well as a tie from Charles Kennedy MP, leader of the Liberal Democrats, have also been donated.

Ashley Jensen from Extras has even donated her first car – her beautiful red Mini Cooper will be on site soon.

You can enter the Bid A Quid competition each night by text or phone and win items where there are fabulous prizes on offer such as the chance to host your own one-off show on Radio 1, or present the weather on BBC Breakfast.

Already this week you can win a drive with Stig from Top Gear, have a guitar lesson with Mark Knopfler, or even be an extra on Byker Grove.

You can also Buy What You BBC where you can bid for iconic items such as Ronnie Corbett's Two Ronnies chair and BBC memorabilia such as Kat Slater's wedding dress.

In the past week people have been bidding for a chance to sing live on BBC ONE on Appeal night after an audition with vocal coaches Carrie and David Grant, and for a signed poster from Norman Wisdom from Last of the Summer Wine.

There will be new items added to the Great Big Bid site frequently so keep your eyes peeled for items that are sending bidders into a frenzy.
