Peter celebrates its 45th anniversary with a new limited edition
badge
Blue
Peter today unveiled a new badge to mark its 45th anniversary.
The
famous blue badge has been changed for one year only as a special
limited edition for viewers of the programme.
Richard
Marson, Editor of Blue Peter, says: "This is a very special
occasion for Blue Peter.
"The
Blue Peter badge hasn't been changed for the last 15 years and we
thought that this would
be a fantastic way to celebrate our birthday."
The
Blue Peter badge has been given out since the programme began in
1958.
The
badge is awarded to viewers and competition winners who send in
interesting letters, write good programme ideas, and do outstanding
'makes.
It entitles
winners to free admission to more than 100 places of interest around
the country.
The
Blue Peter badge has been awarded to numerous celebrities and famous
people including Tom Hanks, Nick Park, Brad Pitt, David Attenborough
and Her Majesty the Queen.
As
part of the anniversary celebrations, 11-year-old Ryan Gilpin
from Sheffield has won a national competition to present the
programme along side Simon Thomas, Konnie Huq, Matt Baker and
Liz Barker.
Ryan
will be the first viewer to present the programme.
He
will be doing everything from trampolining to putting George the
tortoise into hibernation live on the show as well as going rollercoaster
testing with Simon Thomas.
Ryan
said: "I am so excited to be presenting Blue Peter as it is
my favourite programme and I can't wait to meet all the presenters
and be live on TV."
The
45th anniversary programme will be on CBBC ONE tomorrow (Wednesday
15 October 2003) at 5.00pm.

Blue
Peter began on 16 October 1958.
It
was broadcast just once a week for 15 minutes.
It
became a twice weekly programme in 1964 and went to three times
a week in 1995.
Blue
Peter is shown on CBBC ONE on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5.00pm.
