RADIO NORTHAMPTON

BBC raises Voices in Corby

An ambitious new BBC project is about to give a radio voice to the local community of Corby.

From 3 March, BBC Radio Northampton will spend three months broadcasting from a BBC radio studio at Corby Community College in Oakley Road, Corby.

The Voices project, which is part of a national BBC venture, will see BBC staff working closely with local people giving them an opportunity to tell their own stories about living in the town.

In the first few weeks, Voices will focus on projects involving pupils at the Community College, including a talent evening, poetry workshops and Book Week activities.

Voices will also link up with wider community initiatives such as the Corby Wheels Project, the Community Arts and Women's Centres and John Anderson's Corby Athletics Team.

These events will lead up to a week of intense radio broadcasting on Radio Northampton in May, culminating in an outside broadcast in the town centre, run by pupils from the College.

Corby Voices producer Ruth Barnes says: "It's an exciting project that we hope will really capture the spirit of Corby through the lives and experiences of local people."
