HARDtalk: Rami Kaplan

On BBC News 24's HARDtalk tonight (Wednesday 6 November), Sarah Montague interviews Major Rami Kaplan, Israeli army refusnik.

Major Rami Kaplan is the highest-ranking officer in the Israeli army to refuse to serve in the Occupied Territories.

He had been a battalion deputy commander, but after his refusal to serve he was suspended, and spent 28 days in a military jail.

He is one of eight other "refusniks" who have appealed to the High Court of Israel, claiming that the occupation is not legal and therefore their refusal to serve is within the law.

They are demanding that the court gives them the status of conscientious objectors.

Notes to Editors

HARDtalk is broadcast on BBC News 24, Monday to Friday at 10.30pm, and is repeated Tuesday to Saturday at 2.30am.
