HARDtalk: Mikhail Margelov

On BBC News 24's HARDtalk tonight (Thursday, 31 October), Tim Sebastian interviews Mikhail Margelov, Chairman, Russian Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee

The conclusion of the Chechen hostage drama in Moscow last weekend has been described as both a military triumph and a disaster, and President Putin has been severely criticised.

More than a hundred hostages were killed and inquiries about the nature of the gas pumped into the theatre where the hostages were being held were met with confusion and secrecy.

The whole incident has brought the horrors of the war in Chechnya back into the headlines, and questions are being asked once again about the tactics of both the Chechens and the Russian forces.

Mikhail Margelov, a member of the Russian Parliament's upper house, the Federation Council, is a Kremlin insider and used to be Russia's spokesman on Chechnya.

Notes to Editors

HARDtalk is broadcast on BBC News 24, Monday to Friday at 10.30pm, and is repeated Tuesday to Saturday at 2.30am.
