World Cup 2002 - BBC Sport leads the way with a unique tri-media service

Ready for World Cup 2002 - Garth Crooks, Trevor Brooking, Barry Davies, Alan Hansen, Gary Lineker, Ray Stubbs, Mark Bright, Hazel Irvine, John Motson, Mark Lawrenson

The World Cup 2002: two countries with 20 stadia host 32 nations and the world's greatest players in a tournament that unites the globe. BBC Sport will be providing viewers, listeners and internet users across the UK with the ultimate World Cup experience.

Leading the way with a unique tri-media service, BBC Sport offers the nation the opportunity to experience the World Cup any time, any place, anywhere.

Live and highlights action will form the basis of coverage on BBC ONE and Radio Five Live with BBCi – both online and through interactive TV – adding an unequalled dimension to the 2002 tournament.

In a historic broadcasting first, after the daily Match Of The Day highlights, enter BBCi's World Cup Zone which will unite viewers of the BBC's interactive coverage with Radio Five Live listeners and online visitors in a live Talk Forum in which viewers and listeners can take part in World Cup chat, comment and analysis with Ray Stubbs, Russell Fuller and a host of expert pundits by phone, text or e-mail. A must for every die-hard footie fan.

Providing 24-hours-a-day access to all the games, a special England channel and intensive analysis of all the action, BBCi is integral to the BBC's package of services to viewers and listeners this summer.

On BBC ONE, Gary Lineker, Ray Stubbs and Match Of The Day regulars Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson will be joined by a host of footballing stars including Peter Schmeichel, Jamie Redknapp, Peter Reid, David O'Leary, Martin O'Neill and Ian Wright. With daily live games and evening highlights in Match Of The Day – World Cup 2002, they continue the BBC's winning formula of expert analysis, uninterrupted coverage and entertaining chat.

Radio Five Live has turned over its schedule to the tournament, making it the nation's World Cup Station. From Breakfast with Victoria Derbyshire, broadcasting live from the tournament, through to Sport On Five, Five Live will broadcast 49 live commentaries from the games in over 250 hours of coverage.

BBC Sport Online's World Cup site – found at bbc.kongjiang.org/www.bbc.co.uk/worldcup – is packed with facts and figures, behind-the-scenes news and views, games and, new for 2002, Mini Motty – who will arrive on computer desktops to announce goals, or just for a game of keepy-uppy!

The BBC's Head of Football, Niall Sloane, says: "The World Cup is one of the most fantastic global events and BBC Sport is delighted to be able to bring it to people at home wherever they are. We are really looking forward to it, we have a great team and we hope we will reflect the passion, fun, skill and colour from Korea and Japan."

Capturing the vibrant, modern, hi-tech feel of the Far East, from the opening ceremony to the final whistle, the BBC will be bringing listeners and viewers all the action from the tournament, 24 hours a day.
