60 Second Shakespeare Rules

We want as many 60 Second Shakespeare submissions as possible. But please make sure that you agree to the rules before sending them to us!

Please read the full rules below before submitting a 60 Second Shakespeare - but we'd particularly like to draw your attention to the following:

  • Only films and audios created by UK-based students currently in the primary and secondary education system (ie. up to the age of 19) (including home-educated students) will be accepted as 60 Second Shakespeare submissions.
  • All 60 Second Shakespeare entries must be submitted by teachers (or parent(s) if home-educated), on behalf of their students.
  • Permission must have been sought and obtained from the parents or guardians of any students featured in the films or audios to be submitted and used on the 60 Second Shakespeare website. By submitting a film or audio to 60 Second Shakespeare you agree that this permission has been granted.
  • We are unable to feature students' surnames in the published credits listings of submitted movies and audios, in line with the BBC's Child Protection Policy. Therefore only first names of students who appear in or who have helped produce the movie or audio will appear in the credit listings.
  • We will put up as many 60 Second Shakespeare submissions as we can between 14th November 2005 and 31 July 2006, but unfortunately we can't guarantee that every submission will appear on the site, for reasons including technical quality, content and quantity of submissions.
  • Sadly, we cannot return any 60 Second Shakespeare submissions. Not even with a stamped addressed envelope!

  • Full rules

    1. You agree, by submitting your contribution, to grant the BBC a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sub-licenseable right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, play, and exercise all copyright and publicity rights with respect to your contribution worldwide and/or to incorporate your contribution in other works in any media now known or later developed for the full term of any rights that may exist in your contribution, and in accordance with privacy restrictions set out in the BBC's Privacy Policy. If you do not want to grant to the BBC the rights set out above, please do not submit your contribution to the BBC.

    [Please note: the above is standard BBC Rules for this type of competition. 'Non-exclusive' means that there are no limitations on what you, the producer of the film, choose to do with your movie or audio other than on the BBC website. Please also note that the above Rules do not suggest that the BBC may claim the work as its own, merely that it has rights to showcase across BBC chanels and platforms. Full acknowledgement of source remains, and Credits for the school, teacher(s) and students involved will feature on the BBC website for each published submission.]

    2. The BBC reserves the right to refuse any entry for any reason at its absolute discretion.

    3. No contributions will be returned and shall become the property of the BBC. It is therefore advisable for each contributor to retain a copy where appropriate.

    4. Contributors must submit only their own original work and agree that this will not infringe the copyright or any other rights of any third party.

    5. Contributors must be the sole author(s) of the entry, which must not include any copyright material (e.g. music) by any other third party.

    6. By submitting your contribution to the BBC, you:

    6.1 warrant that your contribution;

    6.1.1 is your own original work and that you have the right to make it available to the BBC for all the purposes specified above;

    6.1.2 is not defamatory; and

    6.1.3 does not infringe any law; and

    6.2 warrant that the parents or guardians of all minors appearing in your contribution have agreed that the contribution may be submitted to the BBC.

    6.3 indemnify the BBC against all legal fees, damages and other expenses that may be incurred by the BBC as a result of your breach of the above warranty; and

    6.4 waive any moral rights in your contribution for the purposes of its submission to and publication on BBC.

    7. Acceptance of these rules is a condition of submitting a contribution and receipt of your contribution by the BBC amounts to acceptance of the rules.

    8. The BBC shall not be obliged to make use of any contribution and shall not be liable for any loss of publicity or enhancement of reputation.

    9. Contributions are made at the contributor's own expense and the BBC shall not be liable to reimburse any expenses incurred in making an entry (except where more specifically provided).

    10. Contributions must not contain defamatory, obscene, unlawful or objectional material.

    11. All contributors must (except where otherwise provided) be resident in the United Kingdom.
