Listening to 'Cornwall Connected' brings together everyone who loves Cornwall whatever their own personal connection. In the past...many Cornish people left the land of their birth and now their descendents live all over the globe. Amongst other reasons, many people left their homes to share their mining skills.

Cornish place names began to pop up in other countries as people built new lives - Truro in Nova Scotia, Launceston in Australia and New Redruth in South Africa. All this means that there are now thousands of people all across the world who feel they have a Cornish connection.

The award winning Eden project

In the 21st century... Cornwall still leads the way. There's a real sense of optimism amongst many people when they think of Cornwall's future. Some of the high spots of recent years have been Britain's first commercial wind farm, an economy that's on the up, award winning architecture, the Eden Project, a world famous artistic community and environmental schemes to preserve the county's natural beauty all make sure that Cornwall is still a very special place to live and work.

Cornish round-the-world travellers, local companies who export their products and the constant search for that perfect wave mean that people still leave Cornwall for other countries.

They bring back new ideas, experiences and enthusiasm to enrich their home. Students from the rest of the UK and overseas now come to Cornwall to study and the new Combined Universities in Cornwall project will open soon. New technology means that more and more people can now work from home and many people have downsized from the UK's major cities to enable them to enjoy Cornwall's laid back lifestyle.

Cornwall's dance party scene

The flourishing dance party scene in Cornwall grows year by year with events such as the Surfers Against Sewage Ball now an important date on the calender. Cornwall's art heritage means that there is a flourishing arts scene with a world wide reputation. Film makers and TV companies often work in Cornwall and galleries and studios provide outlets for sculptors and painters.

Over the top.
Over the top and over the edge.

By day Cornish beaches provide the ideal backdrop for extreme sports; as well as surfing, diving, kite surfing, cliff climbing, and body boarding provide ample opportunities for that adrenalin rush.

Over the past few years new breed of beach bars has sprung up all along the coast - the perfect place to chill out and watch the sun go down.

Wherever you are in the world the radio programme and this website enable you to keep in touch with the place you love. Listen to the radio (or download the programme) but also take time to explore the site.

In the next few pages you can keep up to date with what's happening in Cornwall, enter Cornish competitions and even teach yourself the Cornish language!
