As is so often the way in football, refereeing controversies have played a crucial part at the 2010 World Cup finals.
Poll referred to Uruguay's Luis Suarez's only getting a one-match ban for the controversial incident against Ghana as a "cheat's charter".
And just last night there were more - with two penalties in the Spain-Paraguay game. Spain missed theirs after first successfully scoring, only to have it cancelled out for encroachment. Xabi Alonso retook it - and missed.
That was on top of Lampard's goal not given for England against Germany, two disallowed goals in two games for the USA, and a spate of players accused of play-acting and getting other players sent off.
Meanwhile, writing in his column for the UK's Daily Mail newspaper, Poll has also described his compatriot Howard Webb as "one Englishman we can be proud of in South Africa."
