That's a lot of money

Peter van Dyk | 09:36 UK time, Friday, 2 February 2007

Coming in this morning the headline that stood out was "Oil giants rack up £33bn profits". Of course, headlines are meant to stand out, but that's an awful lot of money. Shell's share of it is a UK-record £12.94bn, while Exxon Mobil set a US record with $39.5bn.

But these are businesses, and they're not having any trouble selling their oil, so I wonder if there is such a thing as too much profit. Tell me what you think. And if you don't care about this, tell me what you'd like to talk about.

Maybe you'd like to talk about climate change. The BBC's top story this morning is that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says it is "very likely" that climate change is the result of human activity. That's upgrading the blame on humans from "likely".

You certaintly wanted to comment to us last night when we were talking about the five-minute switch-off.

And what about French President Chirac letting slip that Iran having a nuclear bomb would not be "very dangerous". He went to the lengths of bringing the reporters he gave the interview to back into his office to retract his miss-statement. But do you think his original comments might reflect his real opinion? What the thunder said gets to the heart of MAD, but perhaps Rainboy has the answer...
