What's the news where you live?
I had the 45 minute ride into work this morning on the tube so plenty of time to scan the headlines. A couple of things caught my eye. America seems to be talking about petrol prices, low by Europe's standards but outrageous to the average American.
It is the 20th anniversay of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Ukraine remembers. Here are the questions that you've been asking.
That's just the big things. But there are a million conversations, a million stories out there. What are you talking about? What do you want to talk about?
President George W Bush has launched a full attack on petrol prices. But the Houston Chronicle asks whether it will work? Some Americans think that Big Oil is making record profits off the pocketbook pain of average Americans.
We ask you to tell us what you want to talk about, and we received this e-mail from Bob Dorrett in Maryland in the United States:
For one show, I would like the topic of discussion to be on peak oil.
We tried to get Bob on the programme last night to tell us and you about his concerns. Not heard of peak oil? Here's a little information on Wikipedia. It's short for the Hubbert Peak Theory, so I've just learned. I've always just heard it described as peak oil.
Here's a story we had on the BBC News website about how peak oil had entered the mainstream debate. The basic question is: Is global oil production reaching a peak?
Of course, the world and Ukraine is remembering the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. There are hundreds of stories today in the news. Over on the BBC's Action Network, people concerned about nuclear power in the UK are talking about the issue.
And there is this subject that we started talking about yesterday: Youth: Friend or foe? Take a look at the conversation that has started.
And this story caught Ros's eye. The asexual movement.
- Some other headlines that caught my eye. Japan and South Korea are having a war of words over an island midway between the two nations.
- President Bush is expected to name FoxNews contributor and radio host Tony Snow as the new White House spokesman.
- Neha Viswanathan at Global Voices gives us a roundup of what Nepali bloggers are saying about 'treading cautiously on democratic grounds'.
- The Sri Lankan government launches fresh attacks on Tamil rebels.
