Reasons to be cheerful: 1,2...
Is it a good time to be Welsh as today's headline says in the Independent?
The Rugby Union team are set for the Grand Slam, Cardiff City are in the FA Cup semi-finals, and Duffy is on top of the charts. We'll forgive Andy McSmith for not including Wrexham beating derby rivals Chester in his report - as he prefers to focus on Ruthin boy-done-good Rhys Ifans' good news.
Just when I think he might be right, and the mood is altogether brighter - Toyota agrees to spend big on Deeside, Fron Choir are doing well, and we could have Olympic stars on the doorstep come 2012 - then comes the reality check.
A quick trawl of the other recent headlines shows the local stories that the London Press wouldn't pick up on:
- Anger at waste plans near Rhuddlan castle
- JCB warns factory jobs could go
For as many upbeat stories [Reprieve for Prestatyn hospital] I can find, there as many down [Glass company's closure warning]. Is Cool Cymru back [again], or is this all just a generalisation dreamed by the headline writers?
