Once the top-ranking woman police officer in the UK, Alison Halford is "the bit of grit in the oyster" every political party needs. That was Conservative assembly group leader Nick Bourne's take on the former Labour AM - who is now a Tory - as he helped her launch her memoirs.

And it seems to me that my namesake's take on Ms Halford is maybe a little generous because the best BBC Wales political reporter Adrian Browne could find in the book was the bit about her admiring a colleague's bottom.

Not much political intrigue there...
