More bad press for our NHS
Following on from our blog debate A health service to be proud of?, the www.dailypost.co.uk reports today that retired professor Clare Wenger has received an apology from health officials for being treated in dirty conditions whilst a patient at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan.
BBC Local News reported yesterday that Prof Wenger, 71, from Gwaenysgor, near Rhyl, decided to write a report [contains some graphic content] to circulate to health chiefs, politicians, and academic colleagues about her experiences in the hospital between October 1-7. She explained how conditions made it difficult for her and other patients to maintain a good standard of hygiene and cleanliness.
Extracts from her report states: "While the Government appears to be concerned with the numbers of admissions, waiting lists, MRSA and cutting costs, very little emphasis is placed on patient experience."
www.dailypost.co.uk says the Conwy and Denbighshire NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, has promised to respond in full to Prof Wenger's 4,700-word dossier.
