I'm Head of Major Events at BBC Sport and really believe that I have one of the best jobs at the BBC. I'm responsible for our forthcoming coverage of the Beijing Olympics, and am already heavily involved with the planning of all BBC output for London 2012. In between, there'll be the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Commonwealth Games in Delhi plus a host of Athletics events. My responsibilities spread across tv, radio and online and I am literally like an old dog learning new tricks as I try to stay up to speed with all the latest media developments. Yes I confess to being the oldest member of the Sport management team - born in 1951!
My BBC career started in 1972, when I became a Radio Studio Manager, specialising in News, Current Affairs and Sports Programmes. I became a sports producer in 1979 and then senior sports producer in 1983. A year later I was editing Radio's daily sport news coverage. A move to Television followed in 1985 as an Assistant Producer in TV Sport. Following spells on Grandstand and then Sportsnight, I was made Assistant Editor of Grandstand in March 1990, Editor in October 1991, and Executive Editor in 1997. I got my current job in 2001.
Over the last 25 years, I've worked on seven Olympic Games, taking the editorial lead in Sydney & Athens; six Winter Olympics and seven Commonwealth Games. I also lead the editorial coverage of the BBC’s Athletics events including the London Marathon, Great North Run and World and European Championships.
Outside of work, I'm married with two daughters, a lifelong supporter of Fulham FC and am struggling to learn to play the saxophone
